The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar on Friday in connection with the Videocon loan case.

It is said that Venugopal Dhoot, who started Videocon, put crores of rupees into Nupower in the months after the Videocon Group got a loan from ICICI Bank for Rs 3,250 crore in 2012.

In January 2019, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) charged the Kochhars and their businesses with money laundering for "illegally giving Rs 1,875 crore in loans to the Videocon Group of companies."

The CBI said in a statement after the FIR was filed in 2019 that it was alleged that the accused gave loans to private companies as part of a criminal plot with others to cheat ICICI Bank.

Deepak Kochhar was arrested by the ED in September 2020. This was done under parts of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
